As the Holidays Approach

Dear Friends,

As the holiday season approaches, I thought it would be a good time to pause and consider the many great benefits of working in the healthcare industry. Although we sometimes forget or take them for granted, there are many reasons that those of us working in healthcare, and even healthcare job seekers, should have to be thankful this holiday season. We hope our readers have a terrific November and great Thanksgiving Holiday!

Here are just a few reasons to give thanks if you work in the healthcare field:

Job Growth, Job Growth, and MORE Job Growth! - If you are a healthcare professional, the odds that you are unemployed are much lower than if you work in another industry. While the nation's unemployment rate is a very low 4.2 percent, unemployment in the healthcare industry is even lower; Healthcare is hiring, and has continued to add jobs, even throughout the recession and recovery of the last decade. Specifically, the healthcare support operations category is predicted to be the fastest growing occupation group between 2020 and 2025, with an astounding 34.5% predicted growth rate!

Touch Lives and Make an Impact - Working in healthcare offers many rewards. It’s not just a job, it's a career or even a calling. As a healthcare professional, you are making a significant impact in the lives of others each day you go to work. In what other profession can you touch lives the way you can in the healthcare industry? You could help bring a new life into the world, or save a life from ending. You can change lives and impact families in ways that only healthcare professionals are able to.

Healthcare Reform, Population Growth, and Life Expectancy - These three factors essentially guarantee continued growth in demand for your services as a healthcare professional.

Technology - Electronic medical record technology has made access to data faster, easier, more mobile, more accurate, and, if you are a healthcare IT professional, it's also making you more valuable to the job market. Medical devices and equipment, as well as computer software continue to advance the practice of medicine and drive up demand for new procedures, new skills, techniques, and specialists.

Patients - They are the reason we are all here working in the healthcare industry. They are the end user of all of our efforts and labor as a healthcare professional, and they make the stress and challenges of working in healthcare worthwhile.

Social Media - Social media is allowing medical professionals to connect, share, educate, and consult with each other and with the patient population as they've never been able to before.

Sincerely,
