Spring is in full bloom and we are all now only 6 short months away from the enrollment period for the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, which begins on October 1, 2013. Known best as Obamacare, this legislation is the biggest social safety-net legislation passed in the United States since 1965 when Medicare and Medicaid were created. The law is expected to provide insurance coverage for about 30 million Americans that are currently uninsured, so the healthcare industry has been pushed into overdrive in a rush to meet the increased demand for healthcare services and a host of new regulations under the new guidelines.

Most of our readers expect much growth and opportunity, as well as some challenges, to come along with the implementation of this law, and we will continue to do our best to help prepare. Career oriented healthcare employees will see a dramatic jump in employment opportunities in the months and years ahead, so they should be prepared to take advantage of the hot job market. One of the best ways to accomplish this is to establish specific professional goals and review them at regular intervals.

We have included more information about this subject in our Ask the Experts section of this issue. We hope that our readers can utilize these tips to help them make the most of the opportunities ahead!
